Geoffrey Thulin,
Artist
watercolor and gouache
As a visual artist, my environment, both real and imagined, provides limitless possibilities
for inspiration and exploration. I have always been drawn to
the natural world at large and its connection to the spiritual. The
rhythm of pattern and the role of atmosphere figure largely in my work,
especially the abstracts and landscapes. The media I use include
watercolor, gouache, inks, graphite, charcoal and pastel, often
employing or blending three or more in one piece.
I am also fascinated by animals. As a child I pored over books on zoology studying the realistic illustrations with wonder. As a young adult, I became enamored with children’s drawings of animals. Regardless of the influence, I treat my subjects similarly: infusing a straightforward composition with energy from hyperactive and unexpected color...and a little humor.
